Congratulations to Gwyn Petersen for being featured in our Class of 2020 spotlight! Gwyn is a member of National Honor Society and Pine View Young Democrats, an assistant photo editor for the Torch, a Student Senate representative, and a HUGE contributor to our class office! Gwyn also works with the Sarasota Chamber of Commerce in the 2019 Youth Leadership class, volunteers regularly with All Faiths Food Bank, and worked with Margaret Good on the campaign trail last year. Gwyn currently works as an assistant in her parent's law office and plans to pursue a career in political science. Her favorite class is Journalism, followed by AP US History and AP Language and Composition. In her free time, she's either writing screenplays, updating her gluten-free vegan blog on the Torch website, cooking and baking, or writing new songs! She's currently writing music for the band ACMC, which will be performing across the country and in China next year! Some of her biggest achievements include running the Walt Disney World Half Marathon and co-directing Miss Pine View 2018. On top of all that, she's also working on organizing Pine View's first ever Arts Festival!

Congratulations to Shannon Chan for being featured in the Class of 2020 spotlight!
Shannon Chan is Vice President of Key Club here at Pine View, as well director of Miss Pine View 2018. Out of school, she's been playing the piano for 10 years and is a varsity coxswain of the Sarasota Scullers Youth Rowing Program, where she qualified for Nationals her novice year! In the future, she hopes to pursue a career in neuroscience or medicine.

Congratulations to Christopher Patrick for being featured in this week's Class of 2020 spotlight!
Chris works hard to excel both out of school and in school. He's the Senior Patrol Leader of Boy Scout Troop 77, a prominent member of Chess Club, a varsity member of Congressional Debate in Speech and Debate, one of the first members of Pine View Mock Trial, and, of course, a legendary goalkeeper at Pine View Soccer Club. In school, he's involved with 5 AP courses, his favorites being Statistics and BC Calculus. That's why in the future he hopes to be involved with some branch of engineering or statistics. Above all else, Chris is a loving member of his family, looking after his brother Sean and his sister Lizzy.

Congratulations to Cameron Burns for being featured as this week's 2020 spotlight!
Cameron is in 4 AP Classes: AP Seminar, AP Music Theory, APUSH, and AP Language and Composition. Cameron enjoys jazz band and has a love of making music in general. He excels in subject areas involving writing due to the practice debate has given him. In the future, Cameron wants to become a lawyer.
Outside of school, Cameron is extensively involved in debate, and is one of the four MCs for Miss Pine View. Cameron also plays in the orcestra pit for the Sarasota Player's theater, and is one of the six original members of the award winning Pine View mock trial team. Recently, the Osprey Independent Mock Trial Team went 4-4 at a the sunshine state showdown, winning one match, losing one match, and tying two. They were a brand new team without a school or coach going against private schools with 4 years of experience and private attorney coaches. On his own, Cameron came in 7th place at the Nova Titan National debate tournament, making him a nationally ranked debater. He also placed 5th in the Invicta Classic National Debate Tournament, and finaled at the Florida Novice States Championship.
Between debate, Miss Pine View, jazz music, and mock trial, Cameron rarely has a moment to himself! He is, however, always sure to make time for his friends.

Congratulations to Lindsay Farb and Marissa Fontaine for being featured as this week's 2020 spotlight!
Lindsay is in 4 AP courses, and her favorite classes are Art History and AP Psychology. In the future, Lindsay hopes to study architecture, art history, illustration, and psychology and hopefully going into a field relating to one or multiple of those.
Outside of school, Lindsay participated in a pre-professional ballet training program at the Sarasota Cuban Ballet School, and is currently in the 2018-19 class in Youth Leadership Sarasota run by the Sarasota Chamber of Commerce. Lindsay considers her proudest achievement to be having the greatest, strongest, most wonderful friends she could ever dream of having.
In the little free time she can find, Lindsay tends to work on designs of lettering and handwriting, as well as planning and working on her art portfolio.

Marissa’s biggest accomplishments are qualifying to nationals for gymnastics 2 years in a row and being the state all around champion, as well as being chosen as cobalt director and being named her teams’ MVP. Marissa does gymnastics and plays the piano, and is involved with National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Peace Jam, and BuildOn.
In her free time, Marissa does gymnastics, likes to go shopping, and and enjoys doing DIYs.

Congratulations to Alexander Gage for being featured as this week's 2020 spotlight!
Alex is in 2 AP Classes, AP United States History and AP Physics 1, but he enjoys English 3 and Engineering as well. In the future, he hopes to be an engineer.
Outside of school, he works at Marcos pizza in Venice, and is in Model United Nations and Jungle Robotics, of which he is the the 3D modeling captain! He also is an active member of our class, and attends every class office meeting and fundraiser despite not being an officer.
In his free time, Alex builds computers and works on other assorted technical projects. His proudest achievement is winning the DAR essay contest in 6th grade.

Congratulations to Madeline Smith for being featured as this week's 2020 spotlight!
Madeline is in 4 AP Classes. Though she was nervous to take AP Physics, she is finding very interesting, and also really enjoys her AP Biology class. In the future, Madeline wants to become a marine biologist.
Outside of school, Madeline plans on joining the HS sailing team at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron, and is also an intern at Mote Marine Laboratory. Madeline is a part of NHS, the Chinese Honor Society, Serteen, and the BuildOn club, which she founded! Last year, with Madeline as president, the team was successfully able to build a school in Haiti, and this year, they are planning on building a school in Malawi.
In her free time, Madeline plays the violin, skimboards, scuba dives, surfs, and wakeboards. Cool talents of hers include being able to do all of her splits and do the Indian whistle!

Edison is in 6 AP Classes, with a focus on STEM, not only because that's where he excels, but because it's what he loves! In the future, Edison hopes to do something related to engineering.
Outside of school, he swims for Riverview High School and the Sarasota Sharks, and is involved in Physics Club, Investors Club, Coding Club, and Rubik's Cube Club, which he founded!
In his free time, Edison enjoys programming and solving Rubik's cubes. His fastest time was 7 seconds, and he is a former holder of the state record!

Congratulations to Cara Kaminski for being featured as our first 2020 spotlight!
Cara is in 4 AP classes- but that doesn’t stop her from participating in lots of clubs like BuildOn, Growing Strong STEMs, and NHS! Her favorite classes are AP Studio Art and AP Lang, both of which she excels at. In the future, Cara would like to to be a graphic designer.
Her most recent accomplishments include the design of the MSPV 2018 logo, as well as being the designer of a club logo on her sister’s college campus. Look out for Cara’s work in local art competitions this year!
